Welcome
Over a hundred thousand students have attended Budapest University of Technology and Economics over the years, Nevertheless, it is with great pleasure and excitement to greet a new group of prospective applicant each time. This is especially true at this time, in light of all the changes that are taking place in the world and at our university today. While there is something new to offer at our university each time we welcome a group of new students, our core values have remained the same as since 1782 when the University was first established. Outstanding professors, well-known research laboratories, successful former students and talented current candidates are the essence of our university. Tradition, a well-established name and worldwide fame characterize the more than 220 years of history of Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
The importance of our mission does not change over time, however, many other things do. Although, there has been considerable emphasis on teaching the science of economics in our engineering programs, this emphasis has not been characteristic of the whole University. The only exception to this was the period when the university was called the Hungarian Royal Joseph University of Technical and Economic Sciences. Starting from the recent turn of the millennium, the name of our University again reflects this orientation, and we continue our work under the name of Budapest University of Technology and Economics. An important step in this process of returning to an approach with more emphasis on economics was the establishment of the School of Economic and Social Sciences in 1998. This school runs graduate and doctoral courses in the field of economics, as well as the MBA postgraduate program.
With regards to our postgraduate courses, over 3000 graduates have received degrees from our Business Engineering program, which was established over 50 years ago. The MBA Program was first started in 1992. As a result of the unique quality assurance system of the MBA program, its student-friendly environment, weekend lectures and a curriculum that is relevant to candidates who already have a degree in non-economics major, this program has become one of the largest postgraduate programs in Hungary.
We are looking forward to welcoming our new students in the MBA program. At the same time, we are already thinking ahead to that special moment when our students will receive their degree, which will confirm that an important part of their education was completed at our University.
